Last year was the inaugural year of the awards, with 15 categories of entry being presented for submission. Five Emily Carr alumni placed in the international inaugural Core77 Design Awards:
Felix Chun Lam (11) and Joe Kenworthy (11) Alcove Project
Honorable Mention | Furniture + Lighting Category
“Alcove is a ceiling storage partition intended for seasonal items in small homes. The concept is to utilize the ceiling in such way that the unit becomes a part of the architecture. Soft lighting and minimal form interplays to create a functional aspect to the ceiling without compromising floor space.”
Pamela Troyer (11) Sheer Geometry Project
Honorable Mention | Furniture + Lighting Category
“An ultra versatile, gem inspired structure with the ability to expand over surfaces using a dual purpose magnetic / electric connection. This product is a lightweight feature piece with the ability to achieve grand proportions from a few distinct points, whether symmetrically or asymmetrically, small or large.”
David Westwood (11) Link Project
First Runner Up | Soft Goods Category
“If you participate in a water sport where you are in, and sometimes under the water, you don’t have a viable life vest option. LINK is a performance life vest designed specifically for in-water activities that aims to increase life vest usage.”
Nick Santillan (10) Red Blue CNC Machine Project
Honorable Mention | Concepts Division
“RedBlueCNC is a modular CNC system that can be easily rearranged to suit specific tasks. Hobbyists and developers can experiment with CNC technology while bypassing the complex learning curve needed to build complex CNC machines. Red Blue CNC promotes experimentation to further develop new types of CNC and tool heads.”
