For those wishing to check out a range of work by current students who are completing their first year of studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, please join in to participate in the Foundation Show 2013.
The exhibition will take place in the Concourse Gallery, along with select classrooms at 1399 Johnston Street in Vancouver, BC. The opening reception is on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 7 – 10pm, and if you aren’t able to make it for the opening night, the show will be up and running from April 20 – 27, 2013.
Together, the Yukon Arts Centre, Parks Canada and the US National Park Service are seeking submissions for three visual artists – one from Canada, one from the United States and one regional (Yukon or Alaskan residents) to participate in an international creative journey within the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park, Alaska and the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site, British Columbia. The application deadline is Friday, February 1, 2013.
The top films in each category are eligible to win 1 of 7 $1,000 prizes, courtesy of Continuing Studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The final submission deadline is April 19, 2013, and there are four early bird $500 prizes for those who submit work before February 15, 2013. The categories include: Documentary, Public Service Announcement, Animation, Music Video Feature, Drama Feature, Comedy, and Fan Favourite.
The Powell River Film Festival is now accepting submissions for their 5 Minute Film Contest for two categories: Under age 15 and Ages 15 – 19. The contest will run in conjunction with the Powell River Film Festival from February 19 – 24, 2013. The festival will include a series of events, screenings, workshops, and information sessions, including a talk by Peg Campbell, Associate Professor in the faculty of Culture + Community at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
To enter the contest, your film must be in a format that can either be uploaded or put on a DVD and mailed to the review panel. The screening format for theatre presentation of the winning films is DVD. Winners will be asked to provide this in January 2013. The maximum length of the film is 5 minute, including titles and credits. The entry deadline is January 11, 2013.
