In 2006, two Emily Carr alumni and working artists, Serena McCarroll (02) and Tyler Brett (01) fled the high cost of living in Vancouver and moved to a place where they knew absolutely nobody, Bruno, Saskatchewan, population 500. They set up a storefront building in which they housed their own unique brand of café and art shop called called All Citizens. It was the ultimate culmination of a DIY aesthetic forged onto a rural landscape. The story and images around this venture can now be found in a book project, along with the work of fellow Emily Carr alumni, Jason McLean (97).
Information on the All Citizens books can be found here and here. You can also watch a Q&A session of the book launch with Serena McCarroll and artist and author Shannon Gerard in Toronto here.
